Ever since I was a kid, I loved styling hair. I would spend hours giving my Barbies new looks with Sharpie dye jobs and haircuts. This passion took me to cosmetology school right after high school, and by 2008, I was working in a salon—a dream come true.

But things took a turn. After just four years, I started having severe allergic reactions to hair products, especially aerosol dry shampoos.

My clients also complained about scalp issues like itchiness, flakiness, and hair loss. I even noticed bald spots on my own head. It became clear that the chemicals in these products were clogging my pores, weakening my hair follicles, and causing my hair to fall out.

The Continual Use Was Killing my hair follicles

I was on a quest to find a solution for myself and my clients. I wanted a product that was safe, effective, and free from harmful chemicals.

My goal? To create a dry shampoo that wouldn't harm our health or the environment. Oh, and it had to smell good too. 🙂

Back in 2016, I started working on a non-toxic, sustainable dry shampoo. It was a tough journey with plenty of hurdles

Using a microscope camera, I examined my hair and saw the damage. The build-up and blocked pores were shocking. I knew there had to be a better way, one that wouldn't harm my health.

I started to create a dry shampoo with natural ingredients and a unique application method to avoid direct scalp contact. I even developed and patented this while working as a stylist.

I created a new, manufacturable design, but no factory would accept my small order.

Convincing a factory to work with me without proof of concept was the hardest part. With no manufacturing network, I learned CAD, bought a 3D printer, and prototyped everything myself.

My proof of concept eventually secured a manufacturer in San Francisco backed by Bill Gates and working with Facebook. I went from untouchable to collaborating with a team that made quality manufacturing possible.
